Club tournaments were held in local waters initially with members fishing all the Victorian "Hot Spots". The club held it's first South Eastern Invitation Gamefish Tournament at Bermagui in 1979. This tournament has been held every year since and has grown to be on of the most significant tournaments on the Australian fishing calendar.

2001 saw a change in title to The Southern Gamefish Classic. Victorian fishing is represented through the Three Way Challenge, held annually since 1977 and the Victorian Gamefish Classic, formerly the Victorian Open Invitation Gamefish Tournament inaugurated in 1982. The Victoria Shield is hotly contested at the VGC.

More recently the Victoria Shield is contested throughout the year by club members fishing Victorian waters only
