The Victorian Game Fishing Club is a family oriented fishing club with a vision to achieve an environment that will encourage present and future generations of anglers to value and appreciate the benefits of membership of a vibrant game fishing club.
The club was formed almost 40 years ago by a group of men who were keen to try there luck against pelagics that were strictly the domain of the professional angler. With basic equipment, ingenuity and determination they formed the great club we have today.
General meetings take place at the clubrooms, 186 Station St. Edithvale from 7:30pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month with the exception of January.
All are welcome.
Dear fellow anglers,
The wind has certainly crisped up and the arctic temperatures upon us mean winter has well and truly set in. Another season has come and gone but the fishing hasn't slowed down, just limited opportunities due to the weather. Tuna still the main talk of the town with a 98kg Southern Bluefin landed just last week and any number of school fish available. These fish are literally minutes form our west coast boat ramps, with tuna being caught only a few hundred metres from the red buoy at Port Fairy. Also news of larger Bluefin and yellowfin popping up on the South Coast of NSW should kick off our 2014/2015 season just nicely!
Talk of the town lately has been broadbill swordfish, the holy grail of big game fishing. Tasmania in particular St.Helens and Eagle Hawk Neck with several swordfish being caught including models well over 200kg. Add to this barrel Bluefin tuna, monster mako sharks and a few other species have turned the Apple Isle into a true game fishing destination. Talks of fishing tourism that could inject millions would certainly have eyes from all over the world looking to us but only time will tell if this is here to stay or just a passing fancy.
A couple of important dates to put on the calendar, our annual Presentation Dinner on Saturday 16th August and our AGM will be held at our September meeting on Wednesday 3rd. There are a few positions available on the committee both general and office bearers so don't be shy to put your hand up. No experience is necessary to make a difference in our fantastic club.
Tight lines and screaming ratchets.
