The Victorian Game Fishing Club is a family oriented fishing club with a vision to achieve an environment that will encourage present and future generations of anglers to value and appreciate the benefits of membership of a vibrant game fishing club.
The club was formed almost 40 years ago by a group of men who were keen to try there luck against pelagics that were strictly the domain of the professional angler. With basic equipment, ingenuity and determination they formed the great club we have today.
General meetings take place at the clubrooms, 186 Station St. Edithvale from 7:30pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month with the exception of January.
All are welcome.
Dear fellow anglers,
Just as a few rays of sunshine start to break through the clouds and the cherry blossom's flowers start to appear we get smacked by more wind and rain. Another annual seasonal occurrence that summons scenes of chaos at the local boat ramps is the tea tree's blooming and the beginning of the crimson madness that heralds Melbourne's snapper season. The annual migration of snapper into our local bays would have to be one of Australia's most popular events on the fishing calendar.
With this busy period on the bays comes the ever present seasonal fisherman who will be dragging the boat out after a few months sitting idle. This will also bring with it the boat ramp dramas of launching and retrieving issues, flat batteries, stale fuel and a whole host of issues that plague boat owners. A bit of forethought and planning can go a long way to save the public embarrassment that follows the mechanical mishaps. So be careful and patient at the ramps and don't be afraid to lend a hand to those that need it and make sure your boat is serviced and ready before it's too late!
Our AGM is upon us and Presentation dinner just passed. Congratulations to all the winners from last season and hope the new season is a successful one for the VGFC members. We already have a few fish tagged and weighed for the club which is fantastic. If the first few weeks of the 2014/2015 season is anything to go by, we are in for a cracker of a year. There are still a few positions vacant on the committee and we would all love to see some new faces jump on board, no matter what level of experience you all can help with the running of the great club that is the VGFC.
Tight lines and screaming ratchets.
