The Victorian Game Fishing Club is a family oriented fishing club with a vision to achieve an environment that will encourage present and future generations of anglers to value and appreciate the benefits of membership of a vibrant game fishing club.
The club was formed almost 40 years ago by a group of men who were keen to try there luck against pelagics that were strictly the domain of the professional angler. With basic equipment, ingenuity and determination they formed the great club we have today.
General meetings take place at the clubrooms, 186 Station St. Edithvale from 7:30pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month with the exception of January.
All are welcome.
I would like to thank all the committee & club members who helped put the BRP EVINRUDE COMP together. There was a great show of people but unfortunately the fish did not turn up. In the end there was 1 very good fish captured 153kg Mako & another Mako tagged by the same angler Dan Stanilovic.
The major sponsors were BRP Evinrude, Simrad / Lowrance, Shimano and Mako Eyewear.
Holdent, Topgun Lures, Lone Star Marine, Wellsys Tackle, Bluewater Magazine, Rinnai, HD Eyewear Video Camera Sunglasses, Club Marine, Superior Fibreglass, Hookem Tackle, Progress Signs & many others that make this a great club & great competition to be a part of.
Please support our Club Sponsors as they support us with many great prizes throughout the year.
Well the 2015 year is off to a great start, with marlin fishing truly up & running both on the east coast and some good catches off Lakes Entrance. Well done to Lee & the boys for putting Lakes Entrance on the map. Also the Bluefin are up and running at Port Fairy, Portland & Port MacDonnell. On hearing the many reports of great fishing at Bermagui, Eden & Merimbula with multiple fish being caught daily, HIGGS WAS GOING to Bermagui.
I arranged to take Angie Angelides who is a past member of the club & has not game fished for some 15 to 20 years. He is a fit 75 year old & never caught a marlin in 20 years of game fishing. He said he had a bucket list that he would never fulfill and that catching a marlin was one of those things, so I said come with me & I will get you one. He laughed and said you are kidding I am too old for that, & I said no, you’re coming. Well on the second day he got a marlin was over the moon. A chap from Portland came up & on his first trip out of Bermagui & had 5 marlin released out of 6 on lures on the bait hole on his first day out. After 2 days, Simon Watts & Bill Molonis came up for a great 3 days fishing. 4 marlin released in 6 days, with 3 that jumped off. I would like to thank my team for the second best trip I have ever had at Bermagui in some 35 years - it was truly awesome.
There have been some new members with many good kingfish caught along the coast off Phillip Island & at the bottom of the Wilson Prom.
The story of the month must be talking to 2 men at the Hastings comp on the Friday night before the comp & wanting to know if they could join the tournament (James O'Shannessy & Scott Binney) . So I explained things to them & they said they would think about joining the VGFC. I also said it is like buying a raffle ticket, join the competition & you have a very good chance on winning many great prizes including a BRP EVINRUDE out board motor & getting to know a lot of new people . They later joined the club & entered the tournament, to which I said great if you win the out board I will have half & he said I have never won anything so I will give you half the motor. Well what do you know; he WON THE MOTOR I am still waiting?
I think the boys had a great week end at the HASTINGS comp, hope to see them round the club.
There have been some very memorable stories that would add to the paddle award in the last month. Geoff lost a wheel off his trailer at Lyndhurst, then locked his keys in the boot and had to call the NRMA to break into his car at Bermagui.
A notable person who will remain nameless DROPPING HIS BOAT OFF THE TRAILER in the main street of Hastings
Darren Beswick went to tag the first marlin for his Son (on his new boat) & in the excitement tossed the TAG POLL OVER BOARD.
